I personally enjoyed my experience on this website.  It was very appealing aesthetically, and as well as being visually appealing, it was also well organized.  I thought the circle concept was pretty cool, and although the page was very colorful it still seemed to work.  One thing that I didn’t particularly care for in the website was that whenever you clicked on a button, instead of cutting to a different webpage, the page would scroll.  It worked, but it felt rather foreign and unconventional. Also, I didn’t really understand the point of the website when I first opened the website.  I thought the page was pretty, but I didn’t really know what it was that i was looking at on my first glance. I think it would’ve been better if there was more emphasis on the point of the website on the first page.  The reason why I say this is because people tend to be lazy while they are searching the web, and so it is imperative that the most crucial information jumps out at them.  For example, I didn’t even realize that the words in black on the first page was the mission statement.

Week 2

Screen Shot 2015-01-20 at 6.11.24 PM

I thought awards.com was a cool website. it was a website where people submitted their websites for reviews and the website had the top pages on its homepage.  when reviewing a website, they would show the name of the website and its creator, and then people would review the webpage based on 4 categories: design, usability, creativity, and content. There was a wide range of different themes for the webpages that were up for review.  They ranged from weird stuff like creating personal new years resolutions to your average personal blog.  I liked the grading criteria, and i also liked that the scores were up to multiple user’s opinions. In general i liked the aesthetics of the page. the page mainly consisted of a bunch of different websites that you could click on so all of the pages were very simple yet engaging and interactive.

Week 3

http://squarefactor.com/#our-work

SquareFactor

The name of this website is square factor.  It is a page run by a team of web designers and developers that helps businesses put together web pages. They can help their clients at whatever phase they might be at whether they already have a design in place, or if they need help with the groundwork, their team does it all. Although their page is not SUPER interactive. It has all all of the basic contact and about information that a potential client may need, but above all the page is really cool.  Their product speaks for itself.  Although they have links to their works, when you open their homepage you experience what they are capable of.  Their animated background, color sheme , and overall look and feel of the page feels very precise and cutting edge.  I really liked this website because it grabbed my attention.

Week 4

Adobe Colour CC

https://color.adobe.com/create/color-wheel/

I like this website because it is very intuitive and user friendly.  When you click on the website you know that the whole purpose and function of the website is to help you come up with a good color scheme for your website.  It is very simple and easy to use. Can just drag the cursors to where you want the color to be and, depending on what setting you have on, it will generate a set of complementary colors.  The 7 settings are: Analogous, monochromatic, triad, complementary, compound, shades, and custom where you can create your own color pallet from scratch.  You are also able to save these color schemes and title them for later reference.  However, not only can you create your own color pallet, you can also explore and find other color pallets that other users have already created.  Overall, I think that it is a very beautiful yet simple and functional setup.

Week 5

Screen Shot 2015-02-05 at 7.53.49 PM

http://www.jarritos.com

The jarritos website is very cool, the texture is amazing, not only is the product amazing, the marketing on this website is phenomenal as well. I fell in love with the website when I saw how much detail was put into th design of the homepage alone. You can touch each individual jarrito bottle and it will pop up and make a little clinking sound as if it was tapping against the ohr bottles. That aside everything on the website, in the fore ground and the background as animated, incling the blinking lights on the arrow and the smile on the luchador. Other than the cool details about the site, I liked the layout of the website as a whole. I thought it was well done all the way around. Between the texture, colors and different types of media, it brought me in and kept me there.

Week 6

Andersson-Wise Architecture

http://www.anderssonwise.com/

I really like the Andersson Wise website’s pattern.  I chose to talk about this one because i feel like it would be a good format for my web design project Goal Tracker.  I think that it would be an excellent layout for my personal project because although my website will have a large amont of statistics and charts, the aspect of my page that will really draw my audience in and keep them hooked will be the featured stories, and with this pattern’s big pictures and minimal words it will really allow me to control what is emphasized on my page in terms of which stories are the most important.  I also like this page layout because it is clean and simple. I would probably have a couple more pictures on my home screen, but only because there are so many leagues that i have to cover.  Also I like the floating drop down menu in the upper right hand corner.  It’s very sleek and gives the page a very professional and modern feel.

Week 7

P’unk Avenue

http://punkave.com/

navinsp_punk

P’unk Avenue is a team of web designers and software techs who lend their services to different organizations and groups that are trying to have a positive influence on our world whether it be through health and wellness, education, arts and culture etc.  The main thing that i like about their website navigation system is that its simple. The home page has their slogan and mission statement front and center with a drop down menu across the top.  Each piece of the menu (Work, apostrophe, window, connect) has a brief statement describing what you will see on each page, so not only do you know where everything is, you know what everything is before you click on it making for easier navigation throughout the page.  Also at the bottom of the page there are links to their different social media pages.

Week 8

Sunday Best Websites

http://sundaybestdesigns.com/

untitled

This website helps to market a team of web designers that caters to the interests of churches.  They help design and manage church websites. It is an interesting design in terms of metaphor because it’s slogan is “websites tailored to every ministry”, and on the home page there is a picture of a guy holding a hanger with a website attached to it and a rack with what appears to be cloth hanging from hangers. this leads us to assume he is a tailor, which is a cool play on words because they are claiming that they can create a web design to accommodate and please any ministry.  Also their navigation bar on the top of their homepage looks like it’s made out of cloth. The only thing that I don’t really like about the aesthetic of the website is that the navigation bar moves down as you scroll which is kind of annoying because it blocks the screen.

Week 10

Media Boom

http://mediaboom.com/home

Screen Shot 2015-03-31 at 7.19.21 PM

This website has an interesting design, it uses a video as its background.  But what makes this video so unique is that although it is advocating services that requires cutting edge technology and graphic design, the video itself is of some place set in the past, maybe a street in the 1950’s. The video is blurred out which allows the audience to focus on the text on the screen which is what is truly important, also the video is on about a 10-15 second loop, but it is nice because the video loops seamlessly which means that the audience isn’t distracted from the information begin emphasized by a jumpy background, also the background video in and of itself isn’t too interesting.  Also, the video is in black and white which not only adds to the historical aspect, but it also allows the background video to stay just that, a background video.  If the background video had bright colors it would call attention away from the more important content, also it is a neutral enough background so that it works with the black and gold color scheme.

Week 11

Honda

http://automobiles.honda.com/cr-v/exterior-360-view.aspx

Screen Shot 2015-03-31 at 7.39.00 PM

This is honestly one of the coolest ideas that i’ve seen yet in this class.  Ive seen websites use multiple photos of the same object from different angles in order to create a similar effect, but it doesn’t create the same sort of effect.  I’ve also seen this effect in video games, but this is cooler because it is a manipulation of real life that allows you to gain a more lifelike perspective of the object that you’re viewing.  Also, not only are you able to swivel the care around, you can also show what the different colors of the car look like. Then from there you can look at the interior view from the perspective of the driver and click on different parts of the car and get an enlarged photo of the feature along with a brief description of the feature itself.

Week 12

http://www.web3d.org/

This is a website designed to educate people about the web 3D consortium. They are a group that was founded in the late 90’s that developed the idea of  3D web design, and really helped implement this cutting edge technology in other aspects of society.  Their technology helps architects and engineers build machines and buildings because they are able to look at them in a whole new way.  Their latest big even was in March when they made an appearance at the Land and poverty conference in Washington DC. for not only the purpose of showing off how awesome their X3D technology is, but also how it can apply to land planning and helping to more efficiently streamline the processes of building necessary infrastructure.

Week 13

https://www.processing.org/

preview image

Processing is an online community that was founded in 2001 who’s purpose is to both increase software literacy and to facilitate the development of new software’s through teaching and providing the software to help artists, researchers, and hobbyists alike to achieve their respective goals.  This particular above piece is called non-linear code and was developed by Dextro. This piece required a very long time to write the code, and although the script is relatively short it is extremely complex and abstract. It is a true example of creative genius. This is just one of the many projects made possible through Processing’s software.

Week 14

http://mikekus.com/portfolio

This particular website is a portfolio of work from a man by the name of Mike Kus.  I enjoyed exploring this website because the interface was clean, the layout was simple yet effective, no fluff just the product. You were able to click on each picture on the page, and each picture pulled up a brief summary of the project, and a sample of the website itself. Then at the end of the sample their is an option to take you to the actual website.  For example he made some alterations for 2015 for a web project he had already done for a company called Future Insights.
Week 15

http://www.javaworld.com

Screen Shot 2015-04-28 at 6.10.40 PM

This website is built to showcase fresh and exciting articles regarding java.  I think it is a very efficient website. it sort of reminds me of newspaper website in that it has featured articles on the front and lots of pictures.  All of the articles are dated and put in order from newest to oldest. Overall the website is very organized. My favorite function of the website is the “most read” bar. It is a part of the navigation that allows you to see the top 6 most popular articles.  Also i really like the navigation otherwise as well.  Next to the java world there is a drop down menu that leads to all of the other pages on the site other than the homepage.  Overall i really enjoy the overall look and organizational structure of the website.
